Did you read his explanation, "Fact" Check? You can hide your Threads account, but the only current way to delete Threads is to delete your entire instagram account.
I'm fairly sure I've seen mention that the algorithm tends to shift gradually, and that "follow a bunch of people you actually want to see then wait 3 days" seems to result in it behaving itself afterwards.
I think it's refreshing to explore a platform that isn't uniquely tailored for me yet. Though rest assured as this is Meta, in a couple of weeks you'll be seeing tractor posts and ads on Threads too.
